After looking at this picture and then doing more research on the men I immediately thought to Jackie Robinson but quickly realized that this picture was taken long before he came to Major League Baseball. I then thought about the world wars, specifically World War two. I remembered the impact that women had on the U.S. during the World Wars during the 1900s. Whether this was working in the factories, on the farms, or serving as nurses and doctors in the war. I also remembered that women played professional baseball during the war, unfortunately not WW1, which was nearest to the time of this photo being taken. Men joined or were drafted by the thousands, and the women stepped up to keep baseball alive in the United States. During WW2, women played baseball in place of men in the All-American Girls Professional Basketball League. By the time it was over in 1954, there were 10 teams and nearly a million people following and watching the league.
